CEDAR Cambridge Dynamics Processor

The 64-bit Dynamics Processor contains three powerful but precise modules: a compressor, an upward expander and a downward expander. Each of these modules offers eight audio channels, and you can use any combination of the processes simultaneously.

Envelopes

Designed to the very highest audio standards, all three modules offer precise envelopes with postive and negative read-ahead, so you can make the processing very transparent, or add punch to the sound.

Side-chain EQ

Each process offers CEDAR's powerful IIR 'Precision' side-chain EQ. This allows you to fine tune the Gain profile to respond to user-defined frequency ranges in the input signal.

Linking

Each process offers powerful linking facilities that you can use to create ducking, or to preserve the soundfield when processing multi-channel material.

Parallel processing

All three modules offer flexible parallel processing for increased flexibility in mastering applications.

CAM11: Limiter

Eight channels of high quality single-band limiting

CEDAR Cambridge Limiter

The CEDAR Cambridge Limiter is designed and coded to the highest 64-bit standards and is suitable for the most exacting mastering requirements. The Limiter is far more than simply a severe form of compressor with a very high ratio; it utilises a different signal path to achieve the desired results without unwanted side-effects. When compared with a compressor with a high ratio, you will find it to be much more musical in the way that it limits.

Protection from audio overloads

The Limiter prevents audio signals from exceeding a threshold, thus avoiding problems such as digital clipping and overloads elsewhere in the signal chain. When set up correctly, this will give protection from clipping with no audible degradation.

Multi-channel

It offers up to eight simultaneous audio channels that you can process independently, or with linked gains, as desired.

Linking

You can select which channels are included in a link. Once you have done so, the maximum attenuation in the linked side-chain determines a single gain change for all the linked channels, preserving the soundfield. Unlinked channels are limited individually.

Unlike a traditional limiter or a multi-band device, CEDAR's Adaptive Limiter 2 employs a unique new algorithm developed by CEDAR. With peak and oversampling modes, it calculates a continuingly varying EQ profile that constrains the amplitude of the output while retaining the integrity of the input. The attenuation profile is constrained in two ways: the way in which it is permitted to vary in time, and the amount by which it is permitted to vary from frequency to frequency across the spectrum. This makes it possible to craft a wide range of responses with just three parameters.

In response to feedback from our customers, we have now further enhanced the algorithm, making it possible to apply even more limiting while retaining the integrity of the original audio. Not just a limiter, it's fair to say that it is now an extremely flexible maximiser too, capable of your pushing audio far further than before while remaining much more natural than audio processed using conventional limiters and maximisers.
